Hi,

I am planning to buy a new zoom lens. I have been shadowing me eyes on sigma 18-200 lens as I have heard they are sharper than the other out there and are pretty economical to buy. Help me understand the difference between these two. One says macro and the other one says standard zoom but I have seen youtube marco also does the same landscape zooming, how is it a macro? or there is any other difference?

Sigma 18200mm f3.56.3 DC OS HSM C Macro Lens for Select Nikon Cameras Black 885306 - Best Buy

Sigma Corporation 882306 - Best Buy

Thanks guys! :)

I'm not sure what you're asking here... The more expensive lens is an 18-200mm zoom that does macro focusing, the less expensive lens is an 18-200mm zoom that does NOT do macro focusing, which is why it's the cheaper of the two lenses. That's the only real difference between those two lenses.

Since there is no official definition of the word 'macro', any lens can be touted as macro. Most photographers agree that macro starts at 1:1 ratio, but manufacturers can get away with calling a lens that's 1:2, or 1:3 or even 1:6 or 1:8 'macro'.

I have never used a macro lens before but I know what a macro lens is.

From what you've told me, I understand that I can take landscape shots (with zoom) of mountains or sunsets/sunrise, etc and tiny shots of insects, flowers, etc from this(macro) lens?
