New Nikon Body but which one?

Whoa Rocket Man, since when is the D610 a DX, unless you want to consider the crippled DX mode on the D610.

Since the D600 and D800 were first mentioned by the OP, I assumed we weren't limited to just DX bodies but we're looking in terms of dollar progression.

Sorry for the confusion . When I first mentioned the list of cameras I was looking at bodys that where in and around the £600 range. Since then Iv been adviced that most of my lenses work better with DX Bodys Hence the D500 being the next in line to the 7*00 series of bodys.

Now I have had a chance to have a look at the spec and the price of the D500 jt is over the top for what I will use it for so the extra in cost is what I could put towards a lens,

That said its which to buy the D7100 or the D7200 and can anyone who has both or used both comment on which and why they prefer which one?

Also has anyone bought anything friom Camera Jungle and if so what was the service like? Thank you

regards Os

I agree with Brent ... if it's purely a pricing decision, then the D7100 would be okay. I wasn't going to spend the money to upgrade from the D7100 to the D7200, but starting without anything the D7200 is the better buy if it fits your budget.

Hello All

I sorry to reopen this old thread But something sort of dropped in my lap today. Right I had decided to buy a D7200 from HDEW for around £640. This was going to be with what I have saved now and the £100 my wife gives me at Xmas and was going to wait till January to see if the prices went down or not Plus my daughter works at Tesco and sometimes get 20% off there purchases which is a good saving and might bring a proper Nikon into the same price as a Grey import. I dont know.

But today I was in the local Cash converter and a Guy came in with a camera I could see it was a Nikon but not sure which one. Anyway It was just the body which was a bit doggy I thought. but they gave him a lens to see if the body worked but he could not get a flashing FEE error off and was trying for a few mins but then decided to take it back to sort it and to return later. Anyway I followed him out as I had seen that error before and asked him what he wanted for the camera and asked for a look at it?. He said they the shop had offered him £120. So I asked him if it was legit. He said it was But I asked him about the Body having no lenses with it. He said that was because he had already put them into the shop on buy back? also he said he had all the boxes and receipts and manuals st home for the camera and lenses. So I said I would give him what the shop had offered and depending on the lenses he has so he said yes that would be fine.
So I paid him £120 for the Body and a Nikon Flash unit and battery and charger and a 32gig SD card. He gave me his address and said I could call later and collect the other bits. So I went home and put a couple of my lenses on to try the body and it all seams to work OK But as Iv gone up from a D70 to a D7000 Its a big jump in tech so is there anything that I need to try on the body to check it out Or is there anything that goes wrong mainly?

Also the two lenses are a Nikon DX AF-S 35MM F1.8 AND A Nikon 55-200MM F/4-5.6 VR DX What price would you think each one of these lenses are worth please?

Thank you for any reply's.. I know Iv not gone and bought the D7200 and gone backwards from that Body But Iv had a huge leap from what I had the D70s and a lot of learning to do . Do you think I got a good deal at £120? Thank you

Difficult to tell. How many actuations has it got? is the sensor clear of scratches? is it fully functional? If its a good one, then yes, its a good deal, but you've taken a bit of a punt there lad. But at £120 its not the end of the world

Hi

Touching wood I Hope as Iv taken a photo of a colour referance card. Iv got it fully blown up on the 27" Mac and so far the sensor looks clear as nothing sticking out that is at the presant. But its only a 16meg rather than the lot larger D7100/7200 sensors.

And as to say everything works well there is no way I could even hazard a guess as to what there is on this Body because to me it feels like a Mclaren P1(D7000) as apposed to my (D70s)Model T Ford LOL. And would also think there is around 15 to 20 years between the two bodys

So its going to be a matter of reading the manual and try, try and try again to see how far I can get and what I can find out.. Like I said the differance to what I am used to is just as far apart as chalk n cheese its a matter of fingers crossed. The main thing is so far all is well It works on Auto and the AF works fine in all light well once I found out how to switch AF light assist mode on (That was the first thing I thought was broke LOL)But no...
And like you said at £120 I think it was worth the punt especially with me getting the sellers name, address and phone No for collection of the boxes and all paperwork manuals and other associated bits (not sure what hey are yet).

One thing has baffled me is where it says d14 Battery Order in the 'Shooting display' and say MD-D11 and in d13 MD-D11 battery type and gives thee types i.e. Alkaline, Ni-MH or Lithium?

Depends on what type of battery you want to use in the grip, AA's or a Nikon battery

Congratulations. Sounds like you got a great deal. One thing I would recommend is to get rid of the training wheels ASAP and stop using Auto Mode. Once you start using the A S M or P mode you will start to become a photographer rather than a snapshooter.

I just said Auto to get a feel and to see if the D7000 was working per say. And although my existing camera is now a D70s I am now 58 and I used to do upwards to 35 weddings a year some 25 years ago. Mostly with a Bronica and Mamiya 645 as back up. With most of film, contacts and samples done in my darkroom and only sent out to Colab for 10x8's and larger. So A and S mode was the norm way back and I still use them today. Now mostly I like using a ND filter so I can get what I want or need from a scene?. So far from being a snapshooter.:encouragement:

Then again with my health and the amount of meds im now on Iv most probably forgot more than I used to know from back then. So now have to hit the books or use the apps for certain settings and especially now with the D7000 LOL

Sorry. If I had realized your background I would not have made the snapshooter comment. I only thought I was encouraging a rookie photographer to get off the Auto Mode as soon as possible. And I know what you mean about age and health affecting everything you do. I am almost 71 and well past my prime. Heck, I can look at some of my old photos now and wonder, "how did I do that?" On the other hand I am looking at some of the things we can do today with computer post processing and realize I could never have done anything like that in the old days.
