Thanks Sam. Indeed a great camera. I am still in awe.

2. D3s apparently does not come with a screen protector. Did you use a Giottos or GGS? Are they worth the trouble?
3. Might have to look into getting higher capacity and faster CF cards. I have a 64gb 300x Lexar and two 8gb Sandisk extreme that I used before with my D700. They still work though.
4. Need to check and update the firmware. It might be the original firmware.
5. This set-up is definitely much heavier than my D800E but it balances well with my 24-70mm f2.8 lens. I've been using my 85mm f1.4 as my walk-around lens and I love that combo.
Good choice on the Kirk bracket. As for a screen protector - I had found a plastic one just like the ones Nikon provides on ever camera but the D3s & D4 it fit perfectly. You will notice on the D3s there are notches for one. Yes make sure firmware is up to date. Another thing you might want to do is download the additional "Picture controls" from Nikon - I found them very useful.
Good luck on the firmware update. I am holding off on doing any updates myself because I use a couple of Sigma lenses. With the problems some people have experienced with new cameras, *if* Nikon is doing it intentionally, will a firmware update affect the compatibility with non-Nikon lenses? Since I don't know the answer for sure, I won't plan on doing any firmware updates myself as a precaution. I hope any firmware updates on your camera won't adversely affect using your Sigma or Zeiss lenses.
Sounds like the D3s will be a suitable replacement. Congratulations on finding an incredible value!![]()
Awesome - are you impressed yet Glenn![]()
You my friend will have hard time putting it down. Your D800e is going to have a lot of "shelf time"Absolutely Sam! I normally would not even dare go pass ISO 6,400 before. Not an issue with the D3s. Did I mentioned that this camera is solid?

VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! The high ISO capability is absolutely amazing!
I'm not familiar with this model--how does it compare with your D800e or D7000 in low light (specifically noise)?
That's my plan once I have all three bodies.
For now, I am still in my "honey moon stage".First, will check if my prime lenses require auto fine tune or not.
