With that said, I have been using my lens for more than six years now and it works just fine without the VR based on how I use it with event type photography. It is a superb lens optically and I'm sure Nikon might have improved it a little more. With that said, I currently have no intentions in up grading my lens since I have very little time at the moment when it comes to photography. Upgrading to the potential new lens will yield very little productivity and improvement.
