I know  B&W UV is $100.00. If I was going to get one that would be it to protect it. But in 35 years of doing photography, I have never used a UV filter to protect  lens. And I have never scratched one either. I won't put a cheap piece of glass in front of a expensive lens. Just doesn't make sense. But others that are less careful with their cameras, like my neighbor, should use one. She rarely puts her cap on. And doesn't always use the lens hood. I do both religiously.
