[QUOTE="zeptov, post: 765432, member: 49615"] I'm super late here, but in case others run into this - the Nikon NEF raw format actually contains 2 images. One is the raw image from the capture, *not* including any postprocessing and the full frame. The other image is a preview image, is (in my case) nearly the same size (a few pixels smaller), and is what I see when I look at the picture directly on the camera. I was super confused because the previews always looked like I expected, but loading the pictures in editing software looked all grey and dull (because I shoot in "vivid" mode). What you're encountering is most likely the difference between the embedded preview in the NEF file, and the raw format in the NEF file. I am just trying out RawTherapee, but it seems to be loading the embedded preview (pretty, bright colors) instead of the raw image itself - I figured out how to pick between them with ufraw but am trying to figure out the same with RawTherapee.
