Well, I wouldn't consider coins more than say 50 or 60 years old as loose change.
I always wanted to find at least one gold coin during my diving the local rivers phase. Never did. I found some much neater stuff, but no gold.
OK, I take that back, I did find a small gold panda coin (modern, obviously) when working as a volunteer during an archaeological project at Ponce de Leon springs in central Florida, but it had to go into the finds tray.
I did find a 1798 large cent once.
