There is nothing I would do to the second image, it looks like a keeper just as it is. But on the first image I would try pulling out more info in the shadows. Right now it just seems too dark to fully appreciate all that is packed in the image. All in all, I think you can believe your friends and family when they tell you they think you're a good photographer.
