Hi all,
this weekend my oldest daughter was invited to her friends birthday party. The whole family are friends of ours, and so I decided I would gatecrash the party with my camera gear and see what I could do. Wow did I learn a bunch and the great thing was, it was without any pressure. I made it clear that although I will be hovering around with the camera, they should also take photos.
I learnt so much in those few hours. The conditions were challenging, strong sunlight accompanied by motives that have a mind of their own, don’t stay still and ignore what you tell them. What really helped however was spending some time with the kids first so they got to know me a little better, after that they did not mind me being there with the camera at all.
After I got home last night with only moderate sunburn I checked the camera and could not believe that I had taken about 400 shots. I have filtered out the ones which are usable and the hit rate lies at about 40%. Not bad I think! The main reason for deleting many of the photos was soft photos due to too slow shutter speed. About 5-10% are shots with some wow factor.
They are all in RAW and I am travelling this week, so I wont be able to process them until the end of the week. As soon as they are done ill post some examples.
If you have the opportunity to shoot at a kids party without any obligations then I can highly recommend it, not only photo training but also psychological training
Pics to follow.
Wishing you all a successful week!
Kind Regards
Martin
