Recently added Zf with 40mmSE and 24-200 to my camera collection alongside a D7200. Loving the Zf and after a few weeks I have come up with my ideal setup. I shoot mostly in M with back button focus and 3D AF, and wished to get all commonly used controls available to my right hand. I also shoot with the monitor closed doing everything through the viewfinder. In Manual Mode Operation Command Dial - Shutter Speed Sub Command Dial - Aperture Lens Focus Ring - Aperture Function Button - ISO which gives me ISO on the Command Dial and Auto ISO on/off on Sub Command Dial AE-L - AF-ON For Back Button Focus (AE lock is set on the release button half press) Play Button - My Menu Top Item Info button (With My defaults):- Metering Mode - Matrix ISO - 100 + Auto Picture Control - Auto Focus Mode - AF-C AF Area Mode - 3D VR - On/Sport AE Bracketing - Off Release Mode - S White Balance - Auto 1 Silent Mode - Off Exposure Compensation - I have this highlighted, so I can hit i button and immediately use the command dial to select exposure compensation. Tapping the release button then clears the i menu display. Video Record Button (shooting) - Playback Video Record Button (playback) - Histogram So I can take shot, review photo in viewfinder with the video record button, check histogram by pressing again. Tap of the release button returns to live view. With this setup I can control all main functions through the viewfinder with my right hand. All the i button functions can be selected with the multi selector (remembering to return highlight to Exposure Compensation afterwards) In order not to miss a quick shot I walk around with the camera in P mode (Auto ISO on) and the AF activation on release button (AF-C/3D). So in theory I can put camera to eye, compose, press shutter and stand a good chance of capturing the shot. To then switch to my manual mode of operation the only thing I need to change is the mode selector to M and I have a6 AF Activation as the top item in My Menu, so tapping play button enables me to switch back button focusing on (AF-On Only). Tapping the shutter release button puts me back to live view. After finishing shooting I will move mode to P, tap play button and select Shutter/AF-On and I am back to a failsafe catch all mode. I hope this might give people a few ideas and look forward to any comments
