No offense meant here but it does nothing for me. Too much clutter with all those wires and poles everywhere and in every direction. The sun is pretty, but, that is what I want to see, not a bunch of electrical/phone wires. If the photo included one single line of wires that formed a "leading line" from outside edge to middle of the photo it would work much better at leading my eye into the photo. This photo has none of that. Keep practicing!

I completely agree with Mike d90, but 'Liked' it just so to say "Welcome" to Nikonites and thanks for posting. It takes a measure of fortitude to invite criticism of one's work. I look forward to seeing more of your photographs as you improve your eye for composition. Enjoy!

Welcome.

I too am going to say it's a picture and not much more. A photograph should show us something or tell a story - a feeling, emotion, something. Unfortunately, this one is flat. I suspect it was something that kind of looked cool to see, but did not translate into a photo.

Don't take the criticism to harshly. I remember a few years ago when I took a picture in picturesque southern Utah. The picture was spectacular, beautiful, awesome in my opinion. Showed it to my professional photographer friend as I was all proud and he said, "Looks like crap." Over the years it has been a running joke that my pictures/photographs still look like crap and the same way he would have shot it. I am also comfortable in looking back at some of my photos and agreeing, they looked like crap.

Keep shooting and keep this photo around. Then one day down the road look back at it to see where you've been and where you are.

Again, welcome.

Welcome to Nikonites Bolajoko. - I too am a newcomer. My opinion of your image is that is has the potential to be a good sunset shot but not as it is currently. I would like to see it minus the sun - and a tad closer to the subjects (posts).

Pretty much agree with everyone here - the photo is lacking in composition. The lower 1/4 of the image is completely black (a total waste of space if you ask me) and the poles/wires, even if they were situated interestingly, are way out of focus. It's also a little slanted to the left, which doesn't really work in this situation IMO. Keep at it though!
One of the first things to learn is that just because it looks cool to your eye in a certain spot, doesn't mean it's going to translate well into a photo (as someone pointed out already). Part of the art of photography is taking that same spot and finding the right angle and composition to make the photo look just as cool as the scene looked to your eye. You want to eliminate your desire to say "the pictures just don't do it justice". You want to find a way to make the pictures do it justice. That's the challenge, that's the fun, and I encourage you to keep at it.

Welcome.

My thoughts are what is the subject? The setting sun or the power poles/lines. I find it busy and un-interesting. IF going for a sun shot I think lower would have been better (below the horizon) or if the poles were the subject then finding an interesting perspective with out cutting the tops off would have been better.
