Hi, According to your description you have many shooting styles (landscape-birds-studio-night sky-video-flash-jpeg snaps) and probably more, quite understandable; but unless you have a very comfortable rocking chair I would not wait for a Nikon answer to your prayers IMHO. I know the existing "memory banks" use I described is NOT the perfect answer (I said it enough times), but I do believe is a partial one, that should be taken advantage off. There must be (maybe the most intricate-different) 3 main styles where "B-B,C-C,D-D" can simplify the "lot of dial twiddling" by allowing you to make ALL THE CHANGES YOU DESCRIBED ('fine tuning' .. ie autofocus modes af-c, af-s, blocked shot response, subject motion -erratic, metering, centre-weighted area size, Matrix, etc, CH-CL-S, jpeg-NEF/image size, primary slot selection (jpeg in one, NEF in the other). etc etc ) AND THEN SOME! like e.g: having different AUTO-ISO settings (min. shutter speed, etc) for every "bank", etc, etc, etc, etc. You noticed I did not include A-A as an option (it sort of is, I call it MANUAL in my case) as the camera has to be on what I could call a "neutral state" (A-A) any other time when NOT shooting (in my case): B-B=Birds, C-C=BIF or D-D=Macros. By the way in all the "banks" I use Manual. So recapping: Nikon does not offer us a full solution, but for those that are in need of a quick way to switch (in my case from Birds to BIF as the subject I am taking photos of decides to take off; as an example) with all the as you described "fine tuning" AND THEN SOME! (can't stress it enough); OR for someone that DOES NOT want to fiddle with all the adjustment you mentioned ('fine tuning' .. ie autofocus modes af-c, af-s, blocked shot response, subject motion -erratic, metering, centre-weighted area size, Matrix, etc, CH-CL-S, jpeg-NEF/image size, primary slot selection (jpeg in one, NEF in the other). etc etc) is a NEAR-PERFECT solution IMHO. As a footnote: IMAGINE TRYING TO REMEMBER 99 SETTINGS, LET ALONE LOOK THRU THEM!
