Now on the high side you could try to find a 70-200 f2.8/80-200 f2.8 and then add a 1.4 or 1.7 Teleconverter for more reach.  Not a lens specialist nor model specific knowledge so you would have to make sure they would work with your D3100.  Just know these 3 lenses seem to be the most popular for motor sports.  On a little higher side you could look at a 300 f/4.</p></blockquote><p></p>
