I got up before the chickens and got to Lake Apopka as the rangers were opening the park. It is open from sunrise to sunset.
The pickings were kind of slim this morning, not a lot of activity, though many of the gators were sunning themselves on the roads.
I did manage to get a few decent shots of some birds though. I had to use the D300 a lot today to get the extra magnification from the crop sensor

An Anhinga drying its feathers and another on its perch


And last but not least a heron. I had to pull out all of the optical stops to get this on as it was so far away. D300, 600mm f/4 and TC300, a total of 36x magnification! For stuff like this a gimbal head on the tripod is a must have!
