Micro

Sorry to start a new post when I have one running (D5100), but need some answers.

After a lot of searching.

Either the

AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 85mm f3.5G ED VR at £380 or
Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro
at £460

I cant stretch to the Nikon 105mm

My question is does the Sigma have the same quality stability and auto focus control as the Nikon AF-S DX Micro.
Is it worth the extra for the distance i will gain ????

If I were choosing for myself I would take the Sigma 105. Read the online reviews, many rate it better than the Nikon 105mm. I almost bought one last week, but found a used but almost new Nikon 105 f2.8 VR for a bargain price and jumped on that.

Thanks for reply

Just to make sure did I find the right lens for the D5100 with stability and AF

Bit confused with all the letters etc on the Sigma's. Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM
Do they have an adapter ring or make specific.

Hi Des, yes the "HSM" model will autofocus on the D5100.
They make them with a Nikon mount, it will fit straight onto your camera.

That link shows it at 730 pounds, sounds too expensive to me.

I was also a bit confused about all the Sigma jargon as well when I was looking, there are a few models of the Sigma 105mm, that one in the link is the latest one , as far as I know.
A member on here called Backdoorhippie has one, he sounds very happy with his.
