Thanks to the poorly written manual (which kinda makes me understand people like Caligula), I now do not know whether to worry about my flash being (partially) malfunctioning or not.
Here it goes: on the rear side of the unit there are (among other things) two lamps, one designated by "OK", on the far left, and one without any designation, on the far right. From the very vague, oblique "explanation", I kind of understood that this lamp, on the far right, should work as an indicator of a batteries' level of charge (charged enough or not). There is also a sort of a white plastic needle close to that lamp, so I guess (but why should I GUESS, since this is supposed to be the USER MANUAL?) it's really a button which should be (de)pressed in order to make the lamp flashing if the batteries are fully charged.
Now, this lamp does NOT emit any light, no matter of the batteries' level of charge. No light. Even with NiMH batteries being charged up to the brim, and the white button pressed, the lamp gives no light.
Problem number two: the "OK" lamp whose role is (allegedly) to indicate that the exposure of the shot (that is about to be made) correct, does not light up either - no matter if the photo is overexposed, underexposed or correctly exposed, the flash being set to any "auto" mode or to "M" - the lamp does not give any sign of activity.
All shots I made using this flash gun are exposed correctly (whenever I wanted them to be correctly exposed), so basically, the thing works. I tried it with D5100 and D7000. Nevertheless, I'd like to get some clarification of the aforementioned details...
The damn "user manual" does not contain what is essential: the picture of a rear side of a unit with the numbered elements and the corresponding designation ("legend"), like it is usually done in manuals for such devices. Damn Metz!
