Messenger Bag showdown: Lowepro vs Tamrac

Who will win?!

So after several days of looking around, I think I've narrowed it down to two very similar bags. The Lowepro Event Messenger 250 and the Tamrac Rally 6. Both are very similar in styling and dimensions, with the Lowpro slightly bigger. Two advantages of the Lowepro is that it has a sleeve/slot for a laptop or tablet, neither of which I currently own, and the lifetime warranty. Both can currently be had for $40 which is right in my price preference. I also like that neither of these bags scream out "There's an expensive camera in here!"

What I'm looking for in a bag is the ability to store my gear which currently consists of: Nikon D5100 w/ 18-55kit, 18-200 Sigma, Yongnuo 565 flash, AA rechargeable batteries + charger, cleaning kit and a couple filters/shutter cable, remote SD cards etc. Seems like either bag will be able to easily store all that, with room to spare. I'd like to have it all in one bag so I can grab it and go, and keep all the bits and pieces off the desk where it's currently stored where my little one can get at it. I'm normally a backpack person and have been just sticking the gear in there wrapped in a neoprene sleeve, but it's not ideal, and I can't seem to find a camera backpack that I like (can't find one that has enough "general" storage space), so I'm going to go the messenger bag route, and use my existing backpack for travel purposes only now. That'll probably work out better since I can store regular items for the baby, wife and I in the backpack when traveling and have the camera stuff separate.

Anything super good or bad about either, or is it just a matter of pure choice at this point? I'm leaning heavily towards the Lowepro at this time, and will probably order it this afternoon. Any other bags to consider in the SUB $50 range? I really wish there were some local shops that stocked either of these bags, but the nearest "camera shop" is what used to be Calumet in the burbs, which is about an hour from me.

I just bought a new Lowpro Event Messenger 250 on eBay for $45 and free shipping. I'll let you know about it when it arrives. 😂

That really sucks about the Tamrac bankruptcy! I just love my Tamrac backpacks! :(

Back to the subject, either brand makes great products from what I've experienced and have heard. So you should be good with either choice in my opinion. Though I must admit, my experience with Tamrac has been with a more expensive products, so I can't say how good the quality is on the lower end products from my own experiences. I don't know if quality drops the cheaper the cost, like I've seen in some companies. But the expedition series backpacks are extremely well made, and I just love mine. :)

Just got the Lowepro messenger in and it seems great. Well made and roomy, and I can likely fit more than just camera gear in there.
