MC-36 remote timer query

I'm just changing over cameras (D700 to D800E), looking at the spec details for these the D700 uses a 10 pin MC-36 and the D800E is shown to need a 9 pin MC-36?

Are these by chance the same unit - in which case I don't need to buy a new 9 pin unit? or has 'N' dropped the 10 pin version (as not all pins are connected)?

I don't know what you have seen, but there is just one 10-pin MC-36 connector, used by the D700, D800, and a few others.

For example, Nikon says the MC-36 is compatible with the D700, D800, and others ,see the compatible list here:

Note that now there are many Chinese MC-36 knockoffs, very low price, for maybe $15 to $30 USD, available on Ebay, and other places... for example,
