Matrix vs. Center-weighted metering?

I'm looking for advice/guidance on using Matrix vs. Center-weighted metering when using Shutter priority mode. Also, if you use Center-weighted, what diameter area do you recommend? Thanks.

These two settings are not mutually exclusive. I use matrix metering and keep my center weight at the default value of 12. I've dinked around with the weight settings and frankly I can't really tell a difference between 12 vs 8 vs 4, so I just figured I'd stay with the default value.

I use center-weighted. So I am sure the point is there where I wanted it to be. I move sometimes the point if the object needs.

You might look up Nikon's opinion at http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Learn-And-Explore/Photography-Glossary/index.page

(see Center metering, then Matrix metering, then Spot metering)

Says beginners should start with Matrix until they understand more.
Says Center for when subject is centered (Portraits and landscapes work well)
Says Spot needs extensive knowledge to use.

I use default diameter and like Center Metering best. I can better understand what Center is going to do.

sometimes I use matrix focus if I am in Action mode, otherwise, I tend to use center, I have mine set to smallest, and I move the focus point with my control dial,

Also,, use your Diopler to correct the vision, and get so that you can visually confirm the focus, I trust my eyes more than the camera,, I am lucky, and have 20/15 vision, but you can usually correct in camera to match your vision.
