Manual Mode: Camera Shuts down briefly

When I take pictures in Manual mode, the camera shuts its self-down briefly before displaying the image I just shot, at least for 30+seconds, then my picture appears and it is usually very blurry. This only happens when I'm in manual mode

Can anyone please help me figure out what's going on?

I don't think that is a feature, it must be something obvious...

What is the shutter speed? Is it 30 seconds? Is the Interval Timer feature off?

Not knowing anything about which camera you're using nor anything about what you're photographing, I'm going to say it sounds suspiciously like a NR function. When you shoot in manual, how long is your exposure?

As stated, we need a lot more information. But if I had to guess I would guess that your shutter speed in Manual mode is currently set to the same length of time for which you believe the camera is "turning off" - it's not really off, it's just that the shutter is open, and the reason it's blurry is that it's taking the photo and you're moving the camera.

Shutter speed is automatically set in the Auto modes of P, Auto ,and the scene modes.

In camera mode A, S, M, you rotate the command wheel.

I have Nikon D5100, How do i change the shutter speed?

Turn the Mode Dial to S for Shutter Priority, then turn the Command Dial (the thumbwheel on the rear) to adjust the shutter speed. The aperture will be automatically set in accordance with your shutter speed selection. This camera offers dozens of excellent options for prioritizing various settings. Your manual is well written and a good bet is to test a few functions at a time. Have fun and enjoy your D5100.

There is also a long exposure NR setting that is automatically on when the camera is shipped which effectively doubles the exposure time.

I feel in this situation though that reading the manual and watching some youtube tutorial videos might help?
