Manual Focus Rings

My eye sight is not as great as it use to be, so I have been relying on the camera's 'auto-focus' mode for some time.

Now I want to venture past this, but cannot find a way that I am use to. I had an old Minolta that had focus rings that I could use and they would align up when the subject was in focus.

does the D5200s have some thing similar to this? If so, I cannot find it anywhere.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Bottom left of your screen as you look through the viewfinder are two arrows pointing in and a circle, once the circle is steady it means its in focus. And if you see the arrow flashing then you need to adjust focus one way or the other.

Gentlemen,

Thank you both for your replies!

Scott,

Are you referring to what looks like, to me, a bow tie in your representation?

In the bottom left, all i have is a flashing green circle. I am assuming once I'm in focus, it stops flashing .. but I still have some range on the lens's focus ring before it starts to flash again. To me, that amount of "play room" is not in focus.

When you have the green circle its in focus, when its out of focus one of the arrows will show either side pointing towards the circle.

Edit: Apparently yours doesn't have the arrows, check out page 57 of your manual.

Scott,

Unfortinutally, all I have is the green circle .. when I'm out of focus, it flashes .. solid green when I am in focus, but no arrows to indicate which way to turn the ring when i am out of focus. I'm just not comfortable with the amount of "play" in the focus ring before the green circle starts to flash again. The prism system worked very well with my old SRL.

At $105, Sparky's suggestion is a bit out of the question, it is a good one, I just cannot afford that at this point in time.
