Luma Labs - Cinch Strap

Just got my Luma Labs new Cinch strap in the mail over the weekend. I debated heavily between this and a couple of the BlackRapid options before deciding on the LL Cinch.

Quality is excellent. Shipping was fast.

Strap adjustments are easy, but I didn't have a chance to put it in to heavy action yet. From toying with it the clasp/buckle took a second to figure out before it became second nature. Maybe I can do a YouTube review on it, since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info on the Cinch out there. BlackRapid seems to monopolize the market on this type of strap. I guess part of me felt sorry for the guys in Oregon who got nailed with the patent deal.

The comfort level of the padded area far surpasses that of the stock strap, and looks like it should be comfortable for a days worth of shooting.

Most of my weekend stuff with the family is to the theme parks (yes, I live in the Orlando area) or to family gatherings, so I don't use the tripod much.

I went for the Pod Mount so I could hook it up to the bottom of my 70-200mm. When I don't have the 70-200 on, I'm planning to use the tripod mount on bottom of the camera as my primary carry mechanism.

Just note that it isn't a rapid change over from the mounting points, you have to re-lace the strap if you want to change from the lens to the bottom of the camera body. So this isn't the ideal solution if you're going to be changing lenses (big lenses that is) a lot during the day. However, you can use the stock strap locations, or go for one of the other mounting options that LL has to offer.

I'll update this thread as I get a full day of shooting in with the new strap, and let you know how it performs.

Thanks I always like to hear about handy camera stuff that I might want to look into. I have a strap in mind that was highly recommended to me from my friends here, but I'm always interested in hearing about new stuff for my newest addiction! Lol :D

Interesting, but.....I'll stick with my Black Rapid. Not as fiddly as the LL Cinch seems to be.

Jack,

Which model of the BR do you have?

I liked the idea of the RS-5, but I wasn't sure the external pocket would fit my Galaxy S3. With the wife, I know I'll be picking up a second body, so I might just need to pick up a BR strap to compare.

Update - I used my Cinch for the first time today while out and about. Keep in mind, I'm on crutches as I am still healing from my motorcycle accident. The Cinch snugged the camera right up to my lower back or side, depending on how I was standing or wanted the camera to sit.

It took me about 2 seconds to adjust the position to get it straight. I felt extremely comfortable carrying the camera, even with the sway of my body on crutches.

All in all, I'm extremely pleased with the product. Well worth the investment.

Just an update on the Cinch Strap. I finally got off the crutches, and have been using my camera like a normal human being for a change. The Cinch Strap is awesome. Extremely easy to use, and gets the job done. The multiple mounting options make it versatile for the longer lenses, like my 70-200 or mount to the tripod mount for a shorter one.

The only thing that would be nice is to have a quick release type clip for the tripod mount. Otherwise, you have to re-lace the strap each time you switch mounting locations, because it gets all twisted up. It only takes an extra few seconds to re-lace, but I might just add a quick release clip on my own to speed the process up.

Bottom line: excellent purchase, and would recommend it to anyone.

You can try a Custom SLR C loop. Custom SLR C-Loop Camera Strap Mount - Silver

I have my Cinch strap connected to one. I'm currently at work so I can't take a picture and show you but I did find an example of someone using one.

Luma Cinch strap - FM Forums (post #6 if it just pulls up the original thread)

I have a BlackRapid, CarrySpeed, and Luma strap. When I go somewhere nice, I always take the Luma strap.

Seems like an expensive 'fix' when other brands do not seem to have that 'issue'.

It's not a fix. It was an option I chose to use. You can receive the cinch by itself, with a arca plate, or a tripod mount membrane strap.

If we were to use this fix(bottom mount) on a small camera such as the Nikon J1, it would look pretty funny/out of place. Such a tiny camera hanging off to the side.

The same can be said about the blackrapid strap. It easily slides around unless you purchase the underarm strap[fix] to keep it in place. Whereas the Carryspeed and cinch are made to not slide around.

I just see it all as user options. Not saying one strap is better than the other. Having own all three, I use each one in different situations. I just don't want anyone to be misinformed and not want to give the cinch a try.

That looks like it would solve the problem. Does it balance the camera just as well without separation between the mounting points?

I might just have to pick one of these up.

In my opinion I think it does. It's even better when you are using a heavier lens. I'm not a big fan of the normal neck strap mounts, if you have a heavy lens it tips to the front more(in my experience)

I have one of the original RS4's. Has a zippered pocket to store memory cards in. The only beef I have with it is...I wish the web strap was wider (the part that the camera slides up and down on).
