Well I picked up my new back pack this morning and I must say I am impressed. It has plenty of room for everything I can also put my 80-400 in leaving the lens hood on.

Looks the goods. Plenty of room for your stuff.
So Are you taking that tripod ?
I weighed it up and all of it including tripod is 10kg so that should be right in overhead locker. My other bag is 16kg so I have a spare 4kg I can fit in there if needed.
I figured the tripod would be handy around etosha water hole, the animals come to drink of an evening and the only light you get is a spotlight I am sure I can get good shots with my 80-400 or even my 85mm f/1.4. As others said if I didn't take it I would want it, and it doesn't add much weight at all.
