Looking for software

Although I'm new to a dslr camera i have a lot of pics on my computer from years past. I have a mac with iPhoto but am having trouble organizing my photos to albums. What i would like is a program that once its in a folder it's not in with all the other pictures or one that you can search for photos that are not in a any album. I had a old version of pho to shop elements that did this but I'm hoping to find something that don't break the bank when I get it. I would use my old version but i dont have the code for it anymore.

Define "break the bank".

i suggest you also want something that uses the iPhoto library rather than creates a duplicate, thereby doubling space used. I have Aperture on my MBPro and find it more than does the simple things I need to do at the moment. However, it sounds like you are after some sensible file management app, not a manager and post-processing tool.

I guess break the bank means i just want a simple program to organize all my photos then be able to transfer out of computer to disk or external drive but dont want to spend 100 dollars

LightRoom is over $100 though. I suggest you try Gimp as it is free. Light Room would be best but you said you didn't want to spend $100.00

Tommy...if you have school aged kids (k-college) you can use their information to get the student and teacher version of lightroom for about $70 or so.

My first suggestion would be Lightroom. My second suggestion would be to just suck it up and pay for Lightroom; it's just *that* good.

If have to have something that's free to use look at Picasa for Mac.

Lightroom 5 is unmatched when it comes to organization and price IMO.
From what i've seen, none of the free apps help much with image organization.

It's only $129 currently :)

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 Software for Mac and 65215298 B&H

As someone who got the full version of Lightroom (not the student and teacher version) for about $70 (from B&H with a promo code gratefully received from one of the other posters here), trust me it goes much cheaper. My advice is to sign up for the newsletter for places like adorama, B&H, newegg, etc. and pay attention to the emails to look for a deal. You can get Lightroom much cheaper than $130. Also if you're an Amazon shopper, check the site camelcamelcamel.com for price tracking on Amazon sold items to see how cheap the prices have been recently vs. the current price. Try to buy at a low point.
