Ease of adjustment, correct height for you and size for travel. There's not that much to say about them, they're just adjustable sticks with a screw...

Maybe I'm just a cheap old miser but I've using my tripod as a monopod and think I like it better than I would a true monopod. At any moment you can pull out the other 2 legs and it becomes a tripod again.

I use a Manifrotto 3249B. Works well for me, some folks like to use heads on their monopods, but I don't have one on top of mine. My sister gifted me this monopod to replace my aged Bogen one. Had she not given it to me I would have bought a Manifrotto carbon one. There are lots of choices out there these days.

I use a Manfrotto 680B with a 234RC quick release tilt head and a rubber/spike foot. Very compact and flexible. I have thought about replacing it with a Manfrotto 694CX or 695CX to reduce the weight but it hasn't been that big of a deal yet.

I got the Manfrotto 680B, to win 200gr I had to triple the price.
I use it on the 70-200mm, it is easier to hold the camera with it I find. + I can let it rest when I´m thinking about the next shot.
In some shots I will take it in the air; take into account you might want to do that.

Some find even a monopod too restrictive, they consider a
Camera Harness.
