It seems to me that the 200-500mm f/5.6 which I own is much more universally well liked. It is sharp at 500mm wide open and everywhere else through its focal range. I have also seen a fair few comparisons between it and the new 300mm f/4. The 300mm is sharper without a TC and much smaller but if you plan on using a 1.4TC with the 300mm, the 200-500mm will out perform it.If I were you I'd buy the 200-500mm, you won't be disappointed.</blockquote>
