After hours and hours of scouring the Internet looking for a good quality tripod, and looking at loads of different ones, I finally made my choice, took the dive, and bought something other than a Gitzo or Manfrotto.

*** Apologies in advance for the poor quality IPhone pictures ***

It's a Diat professional Carbon Fibre tripod, rated at 15 Kg, its built like a tank!!! From the get go, I realized that wasn't a piece of cheap Chinese crap... It's solid and super sturdy. It has a ball head with quick release plate, hook for ballast, converts into a monopod, comes with screw in spikes for use on soft ground and even has a lovely high quality carrier bag with side pockets!!... Now I'm sure that all expensive tripods have these features, but this cost me $225.00 delivered, including the ball head.

I'm sure the Gitzo and Manfrotto fans will be quick to criticise and say it isn't as good quality as a Gitzo or Manfrotto, having never owned one of those 2 i cant compare, but this is exactly what I was looking for... A carbon fibre tripod which is lightweight, sturdy and well built, and which also won't break the bank!

Will review it this weekend and next, to see how it copes with a long day hike and the elements...

Looking at it, it's identical, even the bag is the same! The only difference is the metallic bits are silver on that, mine are satin black....

Congrats on your new tripod. If your camera, lens and flash are not too heavy, that should do ok. You can test the ball head if you positioned it at an angle pointing the camera down or up, and if it doesn't "creep", then it is solid.

Got all geared up for some nice moon shots today, got my Sigma 135 - 400 Mounted, climbed the stairs to the roof, to find a hazy and misty night :( Guess it wont be getting tested today... Hope tomorrow will be clear to give it a try!

I tried this with my heaviest Lens today (Sigma 135 - 400mm), it sat perfectly still... happy with that!

Put this to the test last night... Its brilliant! I cant compare it to a Manfrotto or Gitzo, because ive never used either of them, but this has met and exceeded my expectations, its sturdy, stable, heavy enough not to blow over with wind and the ball head allows very precise adjustments...

Heres a pic I took yesterday with it....
