Message: <blockquote data-quote="Fortkentdad" data-source="post: 413259" data-attributes="member: 24285">The Tamron 200-400 F5.6 was discontinued in 2004.  VR was just being introduced about then so it would not have been available when this lens was being developed some years prior to that.  Yes on a long lens VR is very desirable if you expect to hand hold.  Even in the lens manual it recommends a tripod - and faster ISO.  I should have used a higher ISO - these were at 400 - could have easily gone 1000 or a step or two higher than that without change to IQ - will have to test that theory and see how much faster the shutter would be at 1000 vs 400 in shots like this.  Next experiment I guess.</blockquote>
