Live View shooting

I have just got my D5100 and I am a beginner with dslr cameras. When I take photos using the live view, the shutter speed seems to be slowing a lot and pictures are not clear (using auto mode). When I take the photo through the viewfinder (always in auto mode) all is ok. Can anyone help me out with this please? Thanks

Can you provide an example of both so we can see what differences you see.

Worth noting also that;
Light -> Lens -> Mirror -> Viewfinder -> Your eye
Light -> Lens -> Sensor -> Digtial processor -> LCD screen (Live View) -> Your eye

Although the time to process the image between the two is going to me negligible, there will still be a relative difference which may cause the effect you're seeing.

When I take a picture using the viewfinder I just press the shutter release button, hear the click and the picture is taken....whilst when I take it using the live view as I press the shutter release button I hear the click, a short pause and then another click

Live view for me has special use, primary, I use it for two functions,

1st.. Macro photography, manual focus, zoom in,, perfect dial in focus..

2nd,, Quick exposure check for say shooting waterfalls, or night, so nice, to real time
dial in the exposure, really cool.

otherwise, old fashion viewfinder.
