Been Practising Macro with D7000.
I am a complete beginner so have a lot to learn. so Please excuse me if this is a stupid qeustion.:apologetic:
Anyway, never really used the Live View before, but I can only really get a clear picture when in Auto.
When I have it in A OR M when shooting in Macro the picture is very dark, even trying different settings, apperture, iso, ect.
What am I doing wrong??
Thanks Kevin.

What's it like when the top left dial is on the green auto setting? Still dark in LiveView? Are the resultant photos also dark?

When in Auto, it is perfect.
Also when it is in A OR M, and picture on Liveview is dark the resultant photos Do come out OK.
Just can not get a clear picture on the Liveview screen when in A OR M, to see if I have a good shot, so having to use Viewfinder by Eye.

Aha! Check your manual and menu options. You can change the brightness somewhere - sounds like that's all you heed to do.

If you ISO is set too low then the camera may not be able to achieve a reasonable exposure in Aperture Priority (A) mode. In Manual, that's all on you. Again, your ISO is likely too low, but along with that the combination of shutter speed and aperture is insufficient for a proper exposure.

Try putting your camera in Auto ISO mode, setting max ISO so that it's not too high where you get lots of noise (1600 was about has high as I'd ever take my D7000).

Cant find the setting to change brightness, but as I said it works Fine when in Auto Mode.
I have tried different ISO Settings and none of them make a difference, picture still too dark.

The brightness is on the live view screen, ? button + arrow up, I think. I'm not sure that is your problem though.

Thanks, Turned it right up made it a little better but still very dull comparaed to Auto.
Very good picture in Auto, Flash, Scene, U1 and U2, All the rest too dull, ie not bright enough to make out.

I think the trick is to enter live view with your lens' aperture set wide open. If you are set to say f15 and enter live view, the lens stops down and you see darkness. Maybe this is what you are experiencing.

Tried all different settings, from f4.5 to f22 and higher, still the same.
Just not bright enough to work out the shot unless I use the Viewfinder or its in Auto or scene ect,

I never use live view so I turned mine on just for a test. I noticed that the screen was dark in M, A, S, or P modes. However, the screen became brighter with a half press of the shutter button. Could it be that the screen is darker initially to help preserve battery life and then is brighter based on metering when the shutter button is pressed?

So you set lens to 4.5, then turned on live view? If you change aperture after entering live view, you don't see a change in the screen brightness and it stays darker.

Yes Mine is Excactly the same, coming bright when the button is half pressed.
But on most Macro tutorials its recomended to use the Liveview to set the shot up, but cant because of the dull screen.
