My Grad student daughter and my teacher daughter stay up to date with the software, just noticed that LR3 does not support D800 NEF, guess one of my daughters is in for an update.

Lightroom 4 has sliders specifically for highlights, and shadows. Also a curve manipulation.

Very easy to figure out. And is the best I have found for B&W conversion.

I bought mine at our local Staples store for $58 on sale.

Try the 30 day free trial. I think you will be hooked.

Lightroom is the way to go. Very powerful program. I have tried versions 1, 2 and now I am using LR3.6. I have a book on how to use LR3 but I enjoy the videos more, it is easier to see the procedure done than to read how to do it. Definitely download the free trial and find a student or a staff member from a school to buy the full version. It will save you $100 or so. Enjoy the program, it is worth the money.

My wife is a physics student. We got this thing in the mail the other day with all kinds of software in it discounted for students...now I can't find the darn thing.

I guess this is what I want for Christmas... :)

go to the schools website and look for the bookstore tab. it will most likely take you to the site that was on the pamphlet. I have one similar but you need your actual school code to get it. I will look for it to at least give you the site but it might not be the same site. you can also go to adobe's site and just get a copy of your wife's schedule to receive the student discount. They do have time frames though. Hope that helps.
