Let's talk lenses

A lot of space on this forum is devoted to lenses. Is this one better than that one? Which lens do I need next? And on and on.
but the most important ones to all of us are the ones that are in our eyes. Too often we take them for granted.
Of course, time and disease can damage them, but thanks to modern medicine and modern optical design they can often be repaired.
since I have had my cataracts removed and new lenses inserted my vision is now the best it has been in about 55 years. And although I will still need reading glasses, my distance vision is now near perfect. Oh Happy Day.
We photographers owe a debt of gratitude to the optical engineers an eye surgeons who keep so many of us able to take our photos and use our improved vision to help express our inner vision.

Ron,

You are so right about taking our eyes and vision for granted. Growing up, I always had real good vision, but age has taken that away from me. I now must use glasses for near-vision correction, and I miss being able to see and read without them.

It is good to know that some vision issues are remedied, and in particular that yours have been so done, to a degree. I wish you man-years of improved vision.

I have to use glasses and my left eye has a dark spot in the center which cannot be fixed. I do wonder when I an looking at photos, that do look as sharp as I would like whether it is my eyes that are half the trouble. i get then checked every 6 months and am told that I have the best glasses possible.

Well Phil, I guess there are something's they can't fix but you seem to have overcome it and still post some great photos.

Thanks Ron. It's nice to know what others think.

I'm blind in my left eye since birth, I do appreciate what I have, but don't know what I've missed! The interesting thing is how we can adapt. My eye doctor likes to test my peripheral vision in my right eye, he says it's almost 50% greater than normal. I could claim a handicap, but I feel normal :).

It is good to know that Nature has been able to compensate you and you are able to pursue your passion. I once herd of a totally blind photographer who was able to take remarkable photos but I do not know if it is a true story, but I hope it is.
