lens for d7000 / DX sensors

I was using the 18-55 lens that came with my D7000 because it was actually quite sharp. but after about 10 months it started to loose its ability to focus on all subjects. and manually focusing this lens is a pain,

so,, switched to the 24-85 lens which is definitely built a notch up, I actually think the 18-55 is a bit more sharp, but the 24-85 is fairly sharp. Definitely adds more weight the camera. Another reason I like the 18-55 because it keeps it a light weight package. But, in some ways, the 24-85 makes the lens balance better, perhaps the best weight combo for this camera.

I noticed that for this lens is now consider a kit lens for the D600. I might pick up a clean 18-70 DX lens. That was also a really nice lens for the price. They shipped thousands of these lens with the D70, so lots of versions out there. I like the 18 range, so while the 24 is a nice lens, I am missing that last 6mm, especially on a DX sensor. I do think the lens is a perfect match for the D600.

likely true, but I am awful in filling out warranty cards and such, so, Nikon most likely will not honor the warranty. Over the years I have had so few issues that on those rare occasions I need work, I just used my local pro shop, even having them fix some issues with my SLRs over time.

this lens is so low cost, that it does not meet the ratio of repair cost versus lens cost. maybe, I'll for a lark send it to Nikon and see if they honor the warranty, but I bet not.

I have heard that if you have the original sales receipt for your D7000 and 18-55mm lens they will honor the warranty no problem.
While the 18-55mm kit lens is inexpensive it is also a great Kit lens, but if your looking to get rid of it, send it to me and I will take it off your hands for free, and even pay the shipping fee!

Bad at filing out warranty cards? Such a weak argument!

Sorry, but I had to call you out on that one.

Sounds like you just want some new glass! No problem with that at all. Have you tried the 16-85 out yet? How about the 17-55? Definitely sounds like you're looking for a midrange zoom.

I think the 16-85 is the best dx lens ever made. My only regret from leaving the Dx world, it's also sharper and has less distortion than the new 24-85
