Lens Dilemma

Hey guys, I'd appreciate your input on a (sort of) newbie question.
I only use manual focus. Which is so much easier with my prime lenses obviously. Sometimes I struggle with my larger lenses. I'm not sure if that's pathetic or not lol! However I have a one time opportunity today to get a 70-300 FX lens today for close to nothing. I really want to get it.... But my cam has no built in auto focus sensor and would always need to be manually focused which usually would be fine. I'm just guessing manually focusing a telephoto lense with that range might be much harder for me than I'm expecting. What do you think? Should I just get it? Is it easy to learn the ropes? Should I not waste my time?

Get it! I don't know how manually focusing a prime lens is any different than manually focusing a zoom lens? Once you have the zoom dialed in to where you want it, it focuses just like every other lens... Maybe I'm missing something?

I'd get it. There is nothing wrong with manual focusing. I have several older AI lenses that I use. They create just as sharp pictures as
the auto focusing counterparts. As for any differences between prime and zooms, I see no difference in focusing.

The only minor problem may be that the Focus ring on a longer zoom may be smaller (more narrow) and harder to get your hand on. If you do it all the time you'll probably not notice after a while. I only manual focus on occasion so I notice the narrower focus ring on the 300 and 500mm lenses as well as the 18-140mm.

VR is the only decent version of that lens series and it's really not THAT expensive today (250-300), but can last you a long time and do some real work.
