Lens Compatibility

Hi All -

I'm just now getting back to photography (after getting a degree in it and not doing anything with photography for years - yea). I have a D50 and a couple lenses that I used with it. My question is - are those lenses going to be compatible with newer Nikon bodies? I'd like to avoid buying more lenses if I can use the old ones and splurge on a nicer body ;) I'm sure I may lose some functionality that newer lenses have with newer cameras but, I'm not too worried about that.

Thanks!

Yes, they'll "fit" the new body but as you're already aware of you'll probably lose auto-focus, metering, etc.; the details will depend on the specific lens. If you don't mind going old-school your old lenses can be pressed into further service.

Are you thinking of getting something like a d3x00 or d5x00? Or a d7x00? The d50 has a built in focus motor, so your current lenses may or may not have a focus motor and work fine on that camera. If you are moving to a d7000 then your lenses should work regardless of if they have a focus motor or not since those cameras also have a motor. If you go with the d3x00 or d5x00, then your lenses will need to have a focus motor if you want them to autofocus as those bodies do not have a focus motor.
