Hi I have a question. Would an a prime at 35mm fixed ap 1.6-8 be better for shooting freedom or a macro at ? be better? Is there such a thing as a "pure" macro lens at that "size" thanks

Is your question more like "will a macro lens a better investment than a regular prime lens since it can act as a macro and a portrait lens? There is a Nikon 40mm f2.8 macro DX lens that has a similar size and weight if you are interested.

For me, my favorite lens is the 105mm micro! I found I liked to shoot not just macro with it but other things as well! So some macro lenses can pull double duty pretty good in my opinion! :)

One thing to consider if your macro interest includes insects something like a 105mm will give you a better working distance,using a shorter lens and being too close can spook the subject.
