Lens advise for sons baseball games.

So my son is starting baseball soon and I am wondering what lens would be good for this. I have a 18-55mm. But think I need to get a little closer. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Also what would be good settings to capture his swing for a bat and ball contact still?

Thanks.

a lot of it depends on your budget. The lowest cost choice that should work is the Amazon.com: Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR [Vibration Reduction] Nikkor Zoom Lens: NIKON: Camera & Photo

I'm thinking of getting the new Nikon 70-200 f4. Really depends on your budget. The 55-300 and 70-300 vr are also good but a bit slower.

Your current lens will not quite cut it. It is too short. I just happen to take some fast pitch softball game the other week and here are some sample shots to give you an idea.

I was positioned next to the 1st base.

The Nikon 55-200mm or 55-300mm will be able to give you more reach.
