I don't think I would leave the battery in the charged unless it was plugged in and charging. The batteries come with a plastic cap when you buy them. I have two cameras and 6 batteries. My system works pretty good. Battery in each camera and 3 spares. Fresh fully charged spares have the cap on and are in the camera case ready to go. While out shooting if I change batteries the spent battery goes back in the case with no plastic cap. As soon as I get home all batteries that are used at all go on the chargers at home and a fresh battery goes in the camera right then so it is ready to shoot the next time I go shoot. I will go by the charging station by my photo closet on occasions and when I do I will look at the chargers and if there is a battery in the charger and it is charged I will pull it and put the plastic cap on it and put it in the Camera case. If I still have used batteries I will put them in the charger and charge them. Now don't ask me why I would not leave the battery in the charger when it was not plugged in. I just have a feeling that it is not a good idea. I would be afraid it might discharge.
