It does say it's a DC which is a DX format lens so that would keep the price and possibly sales down.

Can't get my head around DX and FX, if a lens is designed for DX, will it not work at all on fx body or will it just have different IQ? Also, why do nikon make DX and FX? Is it for their niche markets? Appealing to the hobbyist / amateur with DX and Pros with FX?

F mount lenses will work with either DX or FX camera. When using a FX camera and a DX lens, the camera can still record approx 1/2 of the resolution (give or take a few depending on the camera model). So with a D800 and a DX lens, you can still record approx 15 mega pickles files.

Canon on the other hand, their DX equivalent lenses will not work with their full frame cameras due to different mount design. To learn more about FX cameras, why don't you try them out from your local best buy store or camera store. It's easier to understand once you try them out.

Samsonite, the lens is designed around the size of the sensor.
It needs to get all the available light from the scene, onto that sensor.

If a DX lens is used on an FX camera you will get light cut off at the edges.
If you use an FX lens on a DX you are putting a lot of light off the outside of the smaller DX sensor.
