24th October "I went down to the woods tonight ... " I want to up my game and I want to do it quickly so ... more effort and more thought is required. I saw some truly amazing photos of woods and forests and mists and things that just blew me away. That is what I want to be able to do and NZ has the woods and forests to do it in. I need to practice. So I went down to the local mountain bike track (flat as a pancake for mountain biking but it is what it is and there are trees). I wanted to practice taking my time. Slowly Lawrence. That means camera settings, lens on manual focus, VR off, remote shutter release, use settings on "A" mode as a guide to manual settings. Take a shot, check histogram, make adjustment, if no adjustments needed (unlikely and didn't happen) change to different settings to get same result. Compose to show depth and make sure there is something you can make pop in LR. That sort of thing. You get the picture. The first step on the journey. The second could be predawn return to the same spot to try the same shot in morning light. Could be of interest. Might be some fog. I won't know if I stay in bed will I? I have quite a few photos that I can play with in Light Room and I think I am getting better. In fact I know I am getting better.
