Latest Flickr App for iPhone - warning!!

I updated my iphone's Flickr app last Friday. I don't remember receiving any kind of notification about this, but imagine my shock when I went to my Flickr page this morning and saw 20 photos taken with my iphone over the weekend, all uploaded immediately after I took them with no notification whatsoever. Thankfully none of them were personal, but I'm not real happy to have had rather bad photos of the price tags and model names of leaf blowers and a bevy of hardwood floor samples sitting on my Flickr page for the weekend.

I noticed none of then had views, and when I scrambled to figure out how it was happening it seems that Flickr wants to act as my cloud storage for all my iPhone photos and uploads them as Private until I choose to share them, but still, I'm not happy that it happened, and that I had to spend 10 minutes deleting them this morning and another 10 figuring out what was going on.

So, just a heads up to Flickr users out there.

Private storage on initial upload or not... I don't like that one bit. Was there a way to turn that off in the settings?

In the Settings for the app (which isn't available from the home screen) there's an "Auto Sync" feature that I turned off. I also noticed that in the Privacy section it defaulted to posting location data with the photos. I turned that off and changed all my privacy settings to Private on the phone. I'm hoping that doesn't change me default Flickr settings as well. If I didn't use it to show photos when I'm out I'd delete it from my phone. As it stands, I'm thinking about deleting it from my phone anyway and using 500px instead to show work.

Not Just for iPhone Users: Android Users... Come Join the Party!

And for those of us using the Flickr application on an Android device, the application is set up the same way.

Auto-synch can be disabled in the Flickr application, but you should know it's there and probably enabled.

I assumed that was the case but wasn't sure.

Wow, thanks for the heads up Jake. I just checked mine and my Auto Upload was set to OFF. But my Photo Privacy was on Public. My app version is 2.32.1556. I wonder if they turned Auto Upload feature on for later versions (since I haven't updated mine in at least a few months). Good to know, thanks again.

After today all of you will be sooo glad that I don't own a smartphone with a Flickr app installed. I tend to lag behind the trends so my dumbphone with only a 3MP camera doesn't take good images at all. Plus I am not too knowledgeable on how to change all the app settings. If I did have a smartphone with a Flickr app installed, I would have attempted my first cellphone selfie today.

I glanced across the parking lot of a Burger King--there was broken asphalt piled up from some type of heavy equipment, and I caught a quick glimpse of something that didn't register in my mind. So of course the natural tendency was to take a more scrutinized, second look. Oh lordy...it wasn't what I expected to see! There was a contractor bent over, and on this bright and sunny day, it was a full moon...if ya know what I mean! ;) Those pants of his were ALL the day down to the bottom of his crack, and it wasn't pretty! ::what:: Can you imagine if I had taken a selfie and uploaded it to Flickr??? :grief:

Hmm... @Rick M likes to see heavy equipment shots but I didn't have my camera with me. Bet that scenic view would have looked awesome with my wide angle lens! :surprise:

In all seriousness, I am trying to wrap my head around how the app is supposed to work. If you take a photo using the app, what did you expect it would do? Does the app offer iphobe editing features? Did you use it expecting it to replace the camera software that comes on the iphone? I am clueless when it comes to stuff like this so I apologize if my questions come across as accusatory--I assure you they aren't. Does 500px offer a comparable app to do what you wanted the flickr app to do?
