amazing, i ordered a new windows 7 laptop from hp (me and a windows 8 laptop could not get along) nothing exotic figuring it would come out of a warehouse somewhere
in the usa. No no, got a fed x tracking number this morning, unit left kunshan, cn today and will be on my door step thursday. I think back to when i was in the service in germany in the 60's, any care package from home was ancient history by the time it arrived.

Congrats on your new laptop. If you are getting a laptop with SSD then that's even better. The windows experience with SSD is just a big plus for me. I hate long boot with the regular hard drives.

ssd was not an option on the model i got. Main use will be picture storage/view while on the road. Like most new computers more features and costs less money than my old laptop,

i will use windows photo gallery and picasa while on the road to send email pictures to friends, family and nikonites. Lightroom, elements and viewnx2 on the home machine. Any new software would take me out of my comfort zone. The windows 8 laptop i returned was way to much of a leap for me, i was spending more time trying to figure out where i was and what i had to do next.

Join the club, when Windows 8 came out on a computer I use at work, I went through a bit of a learning curve as well and I use computers for professional image analysis every day.

I have yet to meet anyone who actually liked Windows 8. I played with it on a friends laptop for about an hour one day and hated it. I have had new windows machines since Windows 3.90. Windows Millennium Edition (Me) was the worse with Windows Vista running a close second. Holding my ranking of Windows 8 so far but it will probably take the #1 spot. Window XP the Best with Windows 7 a very close second.

Windows 8 is nice if you use it on a touch screen device. Like all other updates, it takes some getting used to.

That pretty much mimics my experience with Windows although I started with Windows 95 with an ultra blazing speed of 333 mhz processor and 8 mb video card!

The reason why I mentioned the SSD card is that it saves up on battery consumption, less heat generated by the laptop and it is much faster. An Intel 120gb series 3 doesn't cost that much to upgrade in the future.

My first new one had 4.77 MHz processor with 640 KB of Ram and the 10MB hard drive. Yes I said 10 megabytes. I wondered why would ever need that much storage. I upgraded a while later to the gigantic 20MB drive. I think it was $300+ for the drive.

That drive would hold maybe 4 or 5 of our pictures now? I feel so old.

It amazes me that you could find a Win 7 unit. Mind telling me how you found it? I've looked almost everywhere.

i got mine from hp which i before. I wonder why the fast switch over, xp was still around after vista and win 7. I did check a local repair shop but their prices where higher for laptops with less capacity than what i ended up getting. I am also thinking of doing a win 7 desktop before they are gone.
