All metal construction in those days, will probably last forever. It cost me $NZ437 in 1983, so I don't know what that would be today, but probably quite a lot. I had a couple of cheap Nikkors for a while, a 28-80mm F3.3-4.5, but it was a terrible lens, not very sharp and very wobbly focus ring. Manual focussing was difficult. I also had a Nikkor 70-300mm, but the cheap model. This was even worse than the 28-80. Zoomed in to 300mm it was way out of focus. Not impressed.
