Just scrathced my image sensor, Need some help.

Hello to everyone. I have a d7100 with just 5000 shots, and I just scrathced the sensor very bad. No way to clean it. Only way is to change the sensor itself. Does anyone knows the costs for this? Or, is there any chance that the sensor is protected by a filter, that can be replace? I know from what I read, that the d7100 doesn't have a low pass filter like his predecesor. Btw, I am from România. Thanks în advance.

There's a filter stack on top of the sensor so you scratched the top filter, not the sensor. Far less expensive repair, but a repair nonetheless.

For our own caution in the future, can you tell us how this happened? If you were cleaning, what did you use? Over the years cleaning my own sensors, perhaps I have become over confident. Thanks.

I was trying to blow a small particle of the sensor with a seringe, yeah a seringe, stupid me. Ia said to me that i would be carefoul, blowed air two Times, and the therd was DISASTER. Ended up with a scar on the midle of the sensor. Btw, the rocket blower did not work.

I just recieved an answer from an autorized nikon service here în Romania. They will charge me 250 € for replacing the entire sensor, and the price is not definive.
Anyone knows whats the first filter on the sensor? The one that i scrathced. I was searching on google, and found out that the first thing is the dust remove filter, but i am not sure. Ah, thank you. I use a sensor brush. It works well and I almost never have to move on to a wet clean.
As for changing it yourself, I don't know. Seems like one of those things you need to practice a few times to get it right, haha. I don't know how nikon works, but I would think that job should be done in a dust free environment. Good luck.

You are probably right. But the amount of money that they asked for the repair, I will probably find another body. I have two option, live with the scratch or try to fixit my self. I found on Ebay a Replacement for the filter, but i did not found out if that's the one that i scratched.

That's about the same price that companies that do IR conversion (which is essentially a filter stack replacement) charge for a conversion, so it's not really out of line when you think about what's involved in the process. For Nikon it's probably just easier to swap out the entire unit.

Yeah. I saw on lifepixel the conversion, at the same price. On their site, they have a tutorial to do this,and from what I understand, they remove the first filter wich they describe as dust remover filter, ad then the hot mirror filter. They take this 2 out and put only the ir. Thats where a got the ideea to change the first filter, that i found on Ebay. But a i need to know for sure if that's the one.

Hello guys. I just repaired my camera. I bought the filter from ebay, and replaced the one that i scrathced. The only problem was, that the filter did not had a film on to protect it, and I had to clean it.
