JPEG to RAW image count

I'm shooting in JPEG only at the moment, but am thinking of making the switch to RAW at some point soon.
I might even go the RAW+JPEG as an intermediate step before going full RAW, as storage space isn't a huge issue for me currently.

My question is though... if I switch from JPEG to RAW+JPEG (or even just RAW), where does the file numbering continue from?
Will the next picture I take increment my current numbering and create a RAW file with the same number, or is it likely to start from 0001 again?
Also does anyone know if it did either, whether a new folder is created??

I'm hoping that it just increments from the last number and carries on as normal, but for reasons only known to myself, I don't want it to start from scratch!!!

Any help = much appreciated (as always)

Thanks :)

If you are shooting both jpeg and RAW, both files will have the same number and will be in the same folder on the memory card. As long as there are images in the folder, the numbering will continue until it reaches 9999. At that point, a new folder will be created and the numbering will start over at 0001.
