I can't figure out how to google this problem and get a solution. My computer is erasing new content from my SD and CF cards once I connect them to my computer. or is it my computer? I happened on both of my computers. is it all three of the solid state cards? is the problem my D800?

I took a few photo, entered the sd card into my windows 8 PC, the sd card gives me a shortcut to my folders, I had some old photos i didn't wan to delete yet, those were there, but nothing i had shot that day. when I put the card back in my D800 the new photos are gone. I moved the old photos onto my hd and reformatted the card. same problem again with other cards and other computers. Can anyone tell me whats going on here. I can't work like this!

much respect.

I'm not sure if you are using windows or photo editing software to do the transfer. Generally whatever you use there is an option to the effect of "do you want to delete files after transfer" Look for that. I've not touched windows 8, so I don't have specifics, but it should be an option somewhere.
If you are not talking about an automatic transfer and you are doing this manually, you might be 'moving' rather than 'copying'.

Reformat your SD card in-camera and not with your PC. Take some photos and see whether you can still see them using the camera. Then try putting the SD card into your computer

I think I read your question wrong, sorry. Looks like the new photos are never getting copied to your computer. They disappear once you connect the card. In that case, like Dave said, reformat in camera and see what happens. Maybe search for the exact file name of a new picture on your computer, maybe they are being automatically downloaded to some unknown location your computer and then deleted from the card.

What they said. If you re-format it on the computer, sometimes it does weird things when you put it in the camera. Always re-format it in the camera, and you know its properly set up to take the pictures. Then when you transfer it, it should be good to go. If it keeps doing that, might be something with the card. Also, double check that "Lock" isn't on. I know regular memory cards have a lock, not sure about the CF cards though.
