Is this MB-D11 FAKE???

I posted in the other thread about getting a MB-D11 for my D7000.
I got it at a 'steal' - $150 against the market price of $220

I haven't received the Nikon warranty which is a definite red light.. the dealer states he can give a 'dealer warranty' but not the original warranty.
the 'gripping' material is slightly different than the D7k.. the patterns & softness are slightly different.
the pouch in which the battery tray comes in has a few stitches off.. have never seen anything like that on a Nikon product
the body seems a little light.. don't think it's the magnesium body.
I haven't seen a real grip so i have nothing to compare this against.

everything else is so perfect, if i wasn't nitpicking i wouldn't feel (or know) it wasn't the original.
the adjustment wheels for both aperture & shutter speed work perfectly, the markings on the shutter button are exactly the same, same box, same pouch etc...
only the locking wheel is not tight... if you give it a whirl, it'll keep rotating.

you may also want to take a look at this as to why i have my doubts..
and this exactly same looking grip was sold on Amazon before they realized it was a fake.

Something is a little off with it. Mine matches in the grip in the pattern you mention. The battery tray case doesn't look like mine, mine is neoprene, but that could be just the picture.

It is a very good job if its fake.

Also is a picture of the model number from the bottom of the Ion battery tray.

The images that you've provided looks legit. It might have been a returned item which explains why the registration card is not available and the lower price. Try calling Nikon service center and ask if that serial number has been registered before.

Or does it feel hollow types?

Sorry.. i think that's the best way i can think of describing it..

Glenn - You maybe right cos there are a couple of insertion marks where the battery sits on the camera (the electric connections port)
and the dealer has all battery grips & no warranty for any of them

Big clue: if either of the command dial operate opposite from the body dials, then it's a fake.

For instance, if turning the rear command dial on the body to the left increases the shutter speed while on the grip you turn it to the right........... you got took.

Note: Not all knock-offs exhibit this behavior. But genuine grips won't.

It does feel solid, heavy as you mention. I wonder what the EN on the end of the battery tray model number means. Is it what they call gray market version?

There doesn't seem to be any kind of registration on the Nikon India website...
But my concern is that without warranty if the selection dial breaks (which usually happens on these grips specially the fake ones), then ill be at a super loss

I checked that..
It rotates the same way for both dials as the main dials...
There were things mentioned in that video that seem to have since been changed..
Like the dials.. and the marking on and next to the shutter button


How about the soft material on the grip?
Does it resemble the soft material on the camera exactly?
As you can see on mine, there is a lot of difference between the D7000 body material & the material on the grip..
this seems more like the material on the D800..

My gut seems to be saying the same thing too!
