No, Nikon makes much better ones.  Yes, it will get you closer to your subject then the 18-55.  Though, since you may be half a football field away and up in the bleachers, don't expect to get to up close.  You can certainly crop and still have good results.  Obviously, your best bet would be to get closer to your subject and not be all the way up in the bleachers.  Not sure what you are expecting, but maybe look into renting a lens with a longer focal range.</p></blockquote><p></p>
