Is mine an open box camera?

Hi, everyone, I just bought Nikon D5100 from bestbuy,
But when i got home, I found the box is not sealed, shouldn't the box be sealed with tape or something else. I saw some unboxing videos on youtube, they just open the box which seems not sealed with tape.
How about yours? How can I know whether mine is an open box camera or brand new?
Waiting for ur kind replies

Mine have not had tape on them. You can get the shutter count by uplaoding a jpeg image to myshuttercount.com, best way to know if it's been used!

I have always checked out each camera before buying as I'm sure many people do. If they were sealed, everyone would insist on a sealed one and some wouldn't sell just because someone else had looked at it.

However, since you bought it from Best Buy, I would definitely check the shutter count.

Ok. That website is so amazing as to know the shuuter count? I'm doubtful, but for sure I'm going to upload one pic to check it out. Thanks, Rick

I believe I heard years ago that nikon had what I called a factory seal which was basically tape.I think its a great idea which ensures the customer that the camera has not been tampered with. If someone wants to play with a camera before purchasing they should use a demo model. You are paying for a fresh camera and you should receive it.

I remember my D5100 and it has no 'sealing' tape on it either.
I agree that you should have some way of knowing it's not been looked at before your eyes have seen it.
However, with the way the closing tabs are made these days, once you open the box, it will leave a crease in the cardboard, so just look out for that.

If in doubt though, when staff bring the box to you, tell them you want to buy two now, then when they bring the second box, change your mind, and hold onto the later one.
That way, if they did pick up an opened box from the top of the stack, at least you got a better chance of having a newer one.

I think regardless of having a demo (which they should) people would still open sealed ones and change their mind during the process and then the dealer is stuck. I am not trying to stick up for dealers, but lets face it, there are a lot of assholes nowadays that don't care about anything. I too prefer to buy everything sealed. Most smaller local dealers can't afford to have a stock pile of bodies at there disposal because people open sealed ones and the next guy will only buy a sealed one. It is too bad, but I think it's due to customer behavior.

yeah,, these cameras are so expensive, that people often might make a smaller camera shop open the box, and who knows, people might just change their minds.

Best Buy typically marks an item as "Opened Box" and they reduce the price, accordingly. I do understand that with the hectic holiday shopping experience, a camera can somehow be opened and not be marked as an opened item, but I think it's rare.

I have bought many computers and cameras from BestBuy and have always found that they will bend of backwards to please a customer. At least they do in the BestBuy in my hometown.
