Indoor/Party Mode Issue

Hi everybody; I've discovered some strange behaviour in the Indoor/Party mode. I've checked tha manual, my copy of "From Snapshots to Great Shots", and forums, but did not find anything. I'm pretty sure this is a problem of my camera, but the experts' opinion are always more than welcome (and more for a newbie like me).

I've recently acquired a D5100 (this is my first SLR camera). Testing the automatic modes I found the following issue: In the Indoor/Party Mode, the camera takes the picture approximately a second after pressing the shutter. The Exposure Delay option is turned off.
After doing some other tests, I found that the problem is not the Indoor/Party Mode itself, but the flash. If I use this mode without flash, there is no delay when taking the picture. The delay appears when the flash is turned on.
To do some further checking, I've also taken pictures with the dial set to A, trying to match the same aperture/shutter speed conditions that the camera used when shooting in the Indoor/Party Mode, and there is no delay (with the flash turned on).
This does not seem to be a significant problem (I try to avoid automatic modes) but it is not very funny to have such a camera with a malfunction on the nose. But the fact that really annoys me is that I do not know if this problem could manifest in some other settings...
Thanks in advance.

How charged was your battery? Red Eye Reduction on ? try this test, put it in manual mode, set up a shot,, all manual with flash unit up,, and see if it has delay,

Thanks for the reply!
The battery was fully charged before I started using the camera. Now it has medium charge.
I will try your test and come back later!

Is it really the red-eye reduction?!
The delay only appears, as stmv suggested, with red-eye reduction ON. I then changed to AUTO mode and selected red-eye reduction again, and the delay appeared again...
Does it work that way? Is this normal?

Thanks to stmv...I did not realize that it was related with the red-eye reduction (I never use this feature, and other compact cameras I've used do other things)...This is also adviced in the documentation. I'm so sorry for posting this.

TedG954: There are two activieties, scientific research and music, that I practice everyday, to earn a living. I'm just starting with photography...so I wonder what makes you giving such an ignorant and stupid answer to a guy whose camera's last picture filename is DSC_0050. I just needed (very little) help...But, as you were not willing to give any, at least with this post, you should have laugh at me alone at home and not post this imbecile mockery...

Moreover, I've also asked this question to two guys that have been using (D)SLRs for a long time and also to a guy at Nikon (in my country), and I obtained no answer. And this is the answer I received from support@nikonusa:

Some times it is delay because the camera is re-focusing itself. An other reason is that the flash does not read that flash is needed right away so it delays. The flash some times have to readjust. So the delay sometimes is ok in Indoor/Party modes. But if you every feel the need to have us look at your DSLR we can do that for you.

So, shut up.

I believe with red eye reduction turned on there is a short flash burst prior to the actual shot (exposure) which causes the brief delay. During that split second the pupil contracts and reduces the internal reflection in the eye which would cause red-eye.

Thanks Rick...That's exactly what happened...

Annibelle, I'm glad Rick figured it out for you. You were pretty mixed up about how to operate your camera, you poor thing. Ignorance is not bliss. Be sure to ask more questions about things you can't understand. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Lol, this is why I avoid parties too. Don't have to worry about red eye or what I did last night that someone may have a photo of :)
